Belgium and Ukraine to Jointly Produce Drones and Counter-Drone Systems

Belgium is set to launch its own production of drones and counter-drone systems in partnership with the Ukrainian defense industry.
Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken announced this collaboration during the Bonjour Bruxelles program on the BX1 channel on March 11.
We bring you stories from the ground. Your support keeps our team in the field.
Francken stated that incorporating Ukrainian technology will enable the establishment of manufacturing facilities directly within Belgium. This initiative includes both the production of unmanned aerial vehicles and systems designed to intercept them.
To facilitate this, the Belgian government will sign a contract with a Ukrainian company. The Minister acknowledged that the Belgian military currently lacks a sufficient supply of such equipment.
“We bought some and invested in more equipment than before. But we still need to invest much more,” the Minister added.
Last December, the German company Quantum Systems and Ukrainian drone manufacturer Frontline Robotics announced the creation of a joint venture called Quantum Frontline Industries.

This new enterprise plans to scale Ukrainian defense solutions by using German automation expertise. The project is part of the international Build with Ukraine initiative.
The United States signed a $235 million contract with the Belgian company Sabena Aerospace to maintain and repair Ukrainian F-16 fighter jets through 2029.
The agreement, announced by the Pentagon, provided for intermediate and depot-level aircraft and engine maintenance to support Ukraine’s defense capabilities during Russia’s full-scale invasion.
While technical work was centered at Sabena’s facility in Belgium, Ukraine and Czechia simultaneously collaborated to establish a joint pilot training facility outside of Ukrainian territory to ensure security from ongoing aerial threats.
