Britain Unveils Sanctions on Russian Defense, Energy Firms and Oil Tankers

The United Kingdom has unveiled a new package of sanctions against Russia in response to its ongoing war against Ukraine. The measures were announced on the official government website.
According to the statement, published on June 17, the latest sanctions target four individuals, six organizations, and 20 vessels—including oil tankers, maritime companies, and suppliers of high-priority goods such as electronics.
Among those listed is Russia’s Main Directorate for Deep-Sea Research under the Ministry of Defense, as well as companies supporting Russia’s energy sector, including ROSNEFT MARINE (UK) LIMITED, ORION STAR GROUP LLC, and VALEGRO LLC-FZ. Sanctions also apply to JSC “ATLAS,” which is involved in supporting Russia’s extractive industry.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to provide further details on the sanctions during the G7 summit in Canada.
According to Reuters, since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the UK has sanctioned over 2,300 individuals, entities, and vessels involved in supporting the Kremlin’s war machine.
Earlier, the European Union extended its restrictive measures in response to Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol until June 23, 2026.
Originally introduced in 2014, the sanctions include economic and trade restrictions designed to sustain pressure on Russia for its ongoing occupation of Ukrainian territory.
