British Councillor Survives Drone And Missile Attack While Delivering Aid In Ukraine

Kirklees councillor John Lawson has detailed how he and his brother survived a Russian drone and missile attack while delivering humanitarian supplies to Lviv, western Ukraine, according to BBC on October 13.
“It is hard to be terrified when you are sat in a room full of very strong people,” Lawson said, adding: “They are not afraid and living their lives is the way they fight the war. Just the act of getting up in the morning and going to work is an act of defiance.”
Lawson joined a volunteer convoy that spent two days in Lviv, providing equipment including fire hoses, generators, medical supplies, mobility aids, bedding and clothing, as well as two ambulances, two 4x4s, a pickup truck and a quad bike.
The trip was organized by British-Ukrainian Aid and Caritas, and included a visit to a local literary festival to deliver copies of a community history book from Huddersfield.

The aid mission coincided with what regional officials described as the largest aerial assault on Lviv region since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Governor Maksym Kozytskyi said about 140 Shahed drones and 23 missiles were launched toward the region during the overnight attack on October 5. According to BBC,Independent reports the same day recorded the strike as the largest of the war on Lviv region.
Lawson, who leads the Liberal Democrats on Kirklees Council, said the supplies were “received well” by local partners and framed the delivery as a gesture of solidarity. “It’s not just the aid that we took, it is the people, it is the solidarity and that the rest of the world has not forgotten,” he said.
Earlier, it was reported that Russia launched a large overnight barrage of missiles and drones across multiple regions, killing at least five people and causing widespread power outages and infrastructure damage.
