Germany and Canada are expanding their support for Ukraine’s Defense Forces by committing additional money for the purchase of US-made military equipment through NATO’s PURL mechanism, Ukrainian media outlet European Pravda reported on December 3.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand announced the new contribution before the start of a NATO ministerial gathering in Brussels.

“I am pleased to announce that Canada, together with other allies, will procure a package of military capabilities under the PURL program, which is a NATO mechanism for military support to Ukraine,” she said.

Anand confirmed that Canada’s latest commitment totals $200 million, bringing Ottawa’s overall contribution under this framework to $890 million.

Germany is also preparing a major new tranche of funding.

Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said Berlin will allocate an additional $200 million for the purchase of US weapons and ammunition for Ukraine, according to reporting by Welt.

Officials from both countries emphasized that the added funding reflects a continued commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s combat capabilities as the war grinds on.

Earlier, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide announced that Norway will provide an additional $500 million to a NATO program that finances US-made weapons for Ukraine’s Armed Forces.
