Russian forces continued to sustain significant losses over the past 24 hours, with hundreds of personnel killed or wounded and substantial equipment destroyed, according to Ukraine’s General Staff on January 31.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Russian losses for the day amounted to approximately 880 personnel, along with five tanks, eight armored fighting vehicles, 20 artillery systems, one multiple launch rocket system, and one air defense system.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, cumulative Russian losses are estimated at:

  • personnel: about 1,239,590 (+880);

  • tanks: 11,619 (+5);

  • armored fighting vehicles: 23,977 (+8);

  • artillery systems: 36,768 (+20);

  • multiple launch rocket systems: 1,632 (+1);

  • air defense systems: 1,290 (+1);

  • aircraft: 435 (no change);

  • helicopters: 347 (no change);

  • operational-tactical UAVs: 119,928 (+694);

  • cruise missiles: 4,205 (no change);

  • warships and boats: 28 (no change);

  • submarines: 2 (no change);

  • military vehicles and fuel trucks: 76,377 (+58);

  • special equipment: 4,054 (no change).

According to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces also destroyed hundreds of Russian operational-tactical drones over the past day, highlighting continued pressure on Russian reconnaissance and strike capabilities.

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that rising Russian military fatalities in Ukraine are now closely matching the Kremlin’s recruitment capacity, prompting concerns that Moscow may not be able to sustain current force levels without launching another mobilization.
