Decision on Ukraine’s Use of Western Long-Range Weapons to be Made Before Winter, Says British FM
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy expects a decision on lifting restrictions for Ukraine to use Western long-range weapons against military targets in Russia will be made before winter, Voice of America reported on September 26.
“We are here at the UN General Assembly. I know President Zelenskyy is meeting with President Biden in Washington. There’s also the upcoming G20 summit. I expect that in the coming days and weeks, we will have a very strong position to ensure that Ukraine gets everything it needs as we approach this difficult winter of 2025,” Lammy said in an interview.
He also added that British intelligence suggests that Putin’s position will become much weaker next year. “His economy is in bad shape. It will be very hard for him to cope with the losses and casualties he’s suffered,” the minister noted.
At the same time, Lammy highlighted Ukraine’s successes. “Ukraine has already managed to retake half of the occupied territories. It has pushed Putin out of the Black Sea. It has launched an offensive in the Kursk region, and I hope it will hold those positions. Now is truly the moment, as we move from autumn into winter, for the West to show its courage and absolute commitment,” the UK’s top diplomat asserted.
Earlier, the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy delivered an address at a high-level United Nations Security Council meeting on the war in Ukraine in New York.
