The international Drone Coalition  has allocated €20 million to purchase reconnaissance drones for Ukraine, the country’s Defense Ministry reported on March 24.

The funding was provided in response to the urgent need for reconnaissance UAVs, which are crucial for intelligence gathering along the front lines. These drones also play a key role in adjusting artillery fire and targeting enemy air defense systems, aircraft, and equipment.

“We are grateful to our partners for responding to this critical need. Their swift and flexible decision-making is vital, especially now when these drones are urgently needed by our defense forces. They help our troops scout the terrain and improve situational awareness, which is essential for successful operations,” said Kateryna Chernohorenko, Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister for Digital Transformation.

The Drone Coalition, launched in February 2024 by Latvia and Ukraine, now includes 18 donor countries committed to supplying Ukrainian defense forces with reconnaissance UAVs, FPV drones, and multirotor bomber drones.

Norway’s signing of the agreement in February 2024 expanded the coalition and boosted funding capacity for ordering, producing, and delivering drones.

In just one year, the coalition has provided drones and invested over €2 billion into Ukraine’s drone procurement and domestic production.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukraine’s long-term mine clearance strategy for 2024-2034 includes €700 million in international funding for equipment purchases, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry announced on February 26.
