Germany’s Budget Committee in the Bundestag, the lower house of parliament, approved an additional €3 billion in military aid for Ukraine in 2025. An additional €8.3 billion is planned for the period between 2026 and 2029, according to DW on March 21.

This new package comes is in addition to the €4 billion in military support already allocated for Ukraine in Germany’s 2025 budget. The decision had been delayed for several months due to political disagreements, which ultimately contributed to the collapse of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s coalition government and his upcoming resignation.

Final approval from Germany’s upper house of parliament was a key step in securing additional defense funding. The new spending package also includes adjustments to the country’s strict debt rules, allowing for increased military expenditures.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed that the aid package will include Iris-T air defense systems, guided missiles, radars, drones, combat vehicles, and light weapons for Ukraine.

Previously, it was reported that Ukraine’s defense industry will be able to take part in European Union defense projects on equal terms with the defense sectors of EU member states, as part of the EU’s newly announced security initiative SAFE (Security Action for Europe).
