Drone Strike Ignites Fire at Russia’s “Energia” Plant in Yelets, Supplying Bulava Missiles
A wave of drone strikes targeted several Russian regions on the night of May 22 and into the early hours of May 23. Many of the UAVs were reportedly headed for Moscow, while in the city of Yelets in the Lipetsk region, a key target was the “Energia” plant, which manufactures equipment for the Russian military.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported the attacks on May 22.
According to ASTRA, citing local residents, the Energia plant in Yelets caught fire following the drone strike. The facility is currently under US and EU sanctions.

The attacked facility is Russia’s largest manufacturer of chemical power sources. According to earlier local media reports, the plant produces everything “from AA batteries to power systems for Bulava missiles and spacecraft.”
The plant’s clients include Russia’s Federal Security Service, Ministry of Defense, Roscosmos, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
“One of its [enterprise’s] core missions has always been to supply the army with communications systems, with military hardware. Today, we produce over 50 types of new products specifically for these sectors,” Vladimir Ivanov, chief engineer at PJSC Energia, previously stated.
On May 21, a Russian electronics factory tied to the production of components for electronic warfare systems was reportedly hit by a drone strike.
