EU Targets Kremlin-Linked Disinformation Campaigns in Moldova With New Sanctions

The EU has expanded its sanctions against those undermining Moldova’s sovereignty, adding seven individuals and three entities to its blacklist, the European Council announced on July 15.
The EU Council introduced restrictive measures against seven individuals and three entities deemed responsible for activities “aimed at destabilising, undermining or threatening the sovereignty and independence as well as democracy, the rule of law, and stability” of Moldova.
The measures target allies of fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor and leaders of organizations that emerged from the banned "Shor" party. They are accused of orchestrating schemes to destabilize Moldova’s democracy, including attempts to rig the 2024 presidential election and the constitutional referendum on EU membership.

Among those sanctioned is the company A7, flagged for its deep ties to Moscow and efforts to influence Moldova’s political process. The EU also blacklisted the "Victory" political bloc, founded by Shor, for spreading disinformation and voter bribery, along with the Moldovan Cultural and Educational Center for its role in election interference.
With these latest additions, the EU’s restrictive measures now apply to 23 individuals and five entities linked to operations aimed at weakening Moldova’s sovereignty, democracy, and stability.
Earlier, Estonia warned it will veto the European Union’s 18th sanctions package against Russia unless the measures include a lower price cap on Russian oil.
