Explosions and Blaze Erupt in Occupied Sevastopol, Authorities Cite “Scheduled Exercises”

In the occupied Ukrainian city of Sevastopol, drones carried out an attack on a Russian military unit, resulting in a fire. The footage of the blaze was shared by Exilenova+ on August 21.

Local residents reported explosions and a fire on social media. Shortly after, the local authorities claimed that the incident was part of “scheduled training exercises”, according to a report by Militarnyi on August 21.

However, reports quickly circulated online suggesting that the attack had targeted a Russian military deployment site on the peninsula. It was claimed that the military unit №95408 of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, currently housing a unit of Russia’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), had been struck.

Later, satellite data from NASA’s FIRMS service confirmed the fire in the area, which tracks global fires.

Despite this, the occupying authorities continued to insist it was merely a training exercise at the military facility. In local online groups, residents voiced their frustrations, claiming they were being misled, Astra reported.

“The loud sounds heard in the area of Military Builders Street at the military base were part of a training conducted by the Black Sea Fleet in collaboration with emergency services (EMERCOM, police, ambulance, and Sevastopol Rescue Service), aimed at practicing fire suppression and emergency response,” claimed the so-called governor of Sevastopol, Mikhail Razvozzhayev.

“For obvious reasons, such exercises are not announced in advance. Trust only official information,” he concluded.

Previously, it was reported that Ukrainian defense forces have destroyed a Russian freight train carrying fuel tanks in the occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region, disrupting railway connections used for supplying Russian troops.
