On August 16, Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) carried out an operation in the temporarily occupied city of Melitopol, Zaporizhzhia region, destroying a Russian ammunition depot and enemy personnel deployed to the Zaporizhzhia front.

The explosion occurred in the industrial zone near Korvatskoho passage at the moment a Russian truck carrying troops entered a deployment site.

According to preliminary reports, at least six Russian marines and members of an unmanned aerial vehicle crew from the so-called Kadyrov battalion “Akhmat-Vostok” were eliminated, while the exact number of killed and wounded Russian troops is still being established.

The strike also triggered a fire at the ammunition warehouse, with secondary detonations reported at the scene. Russian forces dispatched four ambulances to the area.

Melitopol, a strategic city in southern Ukraine with a pre-war population of around 150,000, has been under Russian occupation since the early weeks of the full-scale invasion.

The city serves as an important logistical hub for Russian forces, linking occupied parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions and providing a supply corridor toward Crimea. Throughout the war, Melitopol has repeatedly become a target of Ukrainian resistance operations aimed at undermining Russia’s military presence.

HUR stated that the latest operation disrupted Russian logistics in the Zaporizhzhia sector and inflicted losses on both personnel and equipment.

Earlier, on August 5, Ukrainian intelligence reported a large-scale special operation near Sumy, where the “Timur” unit and supporting formations killed over 330 Russian troops and wounded more than 550, disrupting enemy logistics and halting their advance.
