Finland’s Security Service Recruits Intelligence Officers, Prioritizing Russian and Chinese Speakers

Finland’s security service, Supo, is recruiting intelligence officers and prioritizing Russian and Chinese language skills, according to Yle on March 3.
The agency said it is seeking applicants fluent in foreign languages to work in human intelligence.
It added that previous intelligence experience is not required.
We bring you stories from the ground. Your support keeps our team in the field.
“We are hoping to attract candidates of varied and diverse backgrounds,” Pekka Hiltunen, the head of Supo, said in the release. He added that being able to blend in is an asset.
Supo said it is primarily looking for people with fluency in Russian or Chinese. It said candidates with French, Spanish, or less common languages may also be considered.
The agency said it may offer permanent posts, with multiple positions across Finland where it has offices.

Earlier, it was reported that Finland’s security service assessed Russia as continuing intelligence operations against Finnish state institutions, political decision-making bodies, and critical infrastructure.
The service warned that Moscow remains focused on collecting information and influencing targets linked to national security.
The assessment said diplomatic expulsions have reduced Russia’s official presence in Finland. It warned, however, that Russian intelligence has adapted by relying more heavily on undeclared operatives, cyber capabilities, proxy networks, and non-official cover to sustain espionage activity inside the country.
