From 2,000 to 5,000: Russia Plans to Escalate Shahed Drone Production Against Ukraine

Russia is seeking to dramatically increase production of Shahed-type strike drones, targeting a monthly output of up to 5,000 units, according to security analyst Pavlo Lakiychuk.
Speaking in a live broadcast on My-Ukraine on June 5, Lakiychuk—Navy Captain and head of security programs at the Center for Global Studies "Strategy XXI"—warned that attack drones now represent one of the most pressing threats to Ukraine’s security.
“Russia is currently producing around 2,000 drones per month, but plans to scale that to 5,000,” he said. “Each threat must be assessed individually to determine appropriate countermeasures.”
Lakiychuk emphasized that Shahed drones pose a greater danger to civilians than missiles due to their mass deployment and repeated attacks on critical infrastructure and residential areas.
“These drones, while less advanced than high-tech missiles, are more dangerous because of their sheer numbers,” he added.
Earlier, Russian forces launched multiple strikes on settlements across the Donetsk region, killing one person and injuring five others.
In the town of Rodynske, located in the Pokrovsk district, one person was confirmed dead and three others wounded. The attack damaged four apartment buildings, six garages, an administrative facility, and a utility structure. All fires caused by the strikes have been extinguished by emergency services.
