Ground Robots Could Replace One-Third of Troops, Turning Ukrainian Infantry Into an Elite Force

Ground robotic systems could replace up to one-third of Ukrainian infantry on the line of contact, according to Militarnyi on March 21.
Ukrainian outlet reported that Andrii Biletsky, commander of Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps, argued that expanding the use of ground robotic platforms could ease pressure on frontline troops as the battlefield becomes harder for soldiers to move through and sustain themselves.

Biletsky has previously described ground robotic systems as a coming battlefield “revolution,” noting that dense drone surveillance and deeply contested logistics have made frontline resupply and movement exceptionally difficult.
In those remarks, he stated such platforms could replace a significant share of soldiers in both logistics and combat roles, while helping units operate under constant observation by enemy and Ukrainian drones alike.
“We will replace a third of soldiers with robots,” Biletsky declared in a newly published interview circulating on March 21.

That vision is already being reflected in the growing operational use of ground robots across the front.
Ukraine’s military logged more than 7,000 ground robot missions in a single month, underscoring how unmanned systems are becoming a routine part of frontline operations rather than a niche capability.
Most of those deployments were used to move supplies and equipment to exposed positions, allowing troops to reduce direct exposure along contested sections of the front while sustaining daily logistics.
