A Ukrainian reconnaissance-strike ground robot has reportedly captured three Russian soldiers during a combat operation, highlighting the growing role of autonomous systems on the battlefield, Ukrainian defense company DevDroid reported on January 27.

The incident involved the Droid TW-7.62, a remotely operated unmanned ground vehicle built on the NUMO platform. Footage of the operation shows a mission conducted entirely without risking Ukrainian personnel.

According to the UNITED24 Media sources, the operation was conducted by the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade in the Lyman direction.

“Without risk to our fighters. The mission was completed remotely. The exchange fund has been replenished. This is what modern warfare looks like. Robots on the front line. People safe,” the company wrote.

According to the company, the Droid TW-7.62 is a reconnaissance-strike unmanned robotic complex adapted to carry a KT-7.62 (PKT) machine gun.

The system features an integrated ballistic computer designed to improve accuracy and firing efficiency during engagements with enemy targets.

DevDroid said the platform is also equipped with artificial intelligence elements that enable autonomous target detection, acquisition, and tracking.

These capabilities allow the robot to operate under remote supervision while handling tasks that would otherwise expose infantry to direct fire.

It is not the first time a risky operation has been conducted entirely by robots in Ukraine. Recently, Ukrainian assault troops used a single ground-based robotic combat platform to stop a Russian armored personnel carrier and derail an attempted night assault.

Earlier, another ground-based combat drone operated by Ukraine’s Third Assault Brigade held a frontline position for 45 consecutive days without infantry presence.
