Iran Urges Youth to Shield Power Plants With “Human Chains” After Trump Threatens Strikes

Iranian authorities have called on young people to form “human chains” around power plants across the country, following threats by US President Donald Trump to target Iran’s infrastructure if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CNN on April 7, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Alireza Rahimi announced a nationwide campaign inviting citizens to gather at energy facilities as a symbolic act of protection.
“I invite youth, cultural and artistic figures, athletes and champions to join the national campaign ‘Human Chain of Iranian Youth for a Bright Future.’ On Tuesday at 14:00, near power plants across the country, we will stand shoulder to shoulder to say: an attack on civilian infrastructure is a war crime,” Rahimi said.
According to CNN, the initiative is presented as a demonstration of national unity and support for Iran’s armed forces. Rahimi stated that the campaign is also intended to deliver a message to the international community and protest what he described as “war crimes” by the United States and Israel.

The call follows recent statements by US President Donald Trump, who warned that Washington could carry out strikes against Iranian infrastructure—including bridges and power plants—if Iran does not comply with demands to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. According to CNN, Trump set a deadline for Tehran to respond, indicating potential action if no agreement is reached.
Iranian officials framed the planned gatherings as a coordinated nationwide action, with participants expected to assemble simultaneously near energy facilities regardless of political or religious affiliation.
The developments come amid rising tensions linked to maritime security in the Gulf. Iran has rejected proposals aimed at de-escalation that included reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a halt in hostilities.
