Iranian Nuclear Escalation Seen as “Critical Threat” in Coming Months, Warns French Spy Chief
The risk of nuclear proliferation by Iran in the coming months poses a serious threat, prompting the UK and France to develop strategies to address this growing challenge. Nicolas Lerner, head of France’s Directorate-General for External Security (DGSE), issued this warning in a rare public statement, according to Reuters.
"Our services are working hand in hand to confront what is undoubtedly one of the most critical threats in the coming months— the potential proliferation of nuclear weapons by Iran," Lerner stated. He made these remarks alongside Richard Moore, head of the British Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), during a joint appearance at the British Embassy in Paris.
These comments coincide with high-stakes talks in Geneva between Iranian and European representatives. The discussions aim to address Iran's nuclear program, the situation in the Middle East, and Tehran's ties with Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
"Intelligence will play a crucial role in enabling our governments to make the right decisions and devise effective strategies," Lerner emphasized.
Echoing Lerner’s concerns, Moore highlighted the global implications of Iran’s nuclear ambitions. "The regime's nuclear aspirations continue to endanger us all, particularly our friends in the Gulf region," he said.
Previously, it was reported that the deepening alliance between Iran and Russia poses a growing threat due to their increasing military capabilities, intelligence officials warn.
