A shipment of humanitarian aid from the Italian government has arrived in Ukraine, including 39 units of industrial boiler equipment with a total capacity of nearly 53 MW.

This was reported by Oleksii Kubela, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, on January 20.

The shipment consists of modular and water heating boilers, burners, components, filters, and auxiliary systems.

According to Kuleba, this is part of agreements between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The total weight of the delivered equipment exceeds 109 tons, with an estimated value of 835,500 euros.

Additional shipments will arrive in the coming days, with the first deliveries prioritized for frontline areas. Italy has also agreed to transfer 78 units of heating equipment with a total capacity of 116 MW. This equipment will serve as primary or backup heat sources for hospitals, schools, administrative buildings, critical infrastructure facilities, and district heating systems.

This support will help strengthen heating supplies, meet emergency needs after shelling, and reduce the vulnerability of communities during the winter period, the minister said.

Apart from heating, Ukraine is facing significant electricity challenges due to Russian attacks. Since October 2025, Russian missile strikes have damaged 8.5 gigawatts of Ukraine’s power generation capacity, including thermal and hydropower plants, said Oleksii Sobolev, Ukraine’s Economy, Environment and Agriculture Minister, during a speech at the Ukrainian House in Davos on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum.

Sobolev emphasized that much of this capacity has been restored only to be destroyed again, in a repeating cycle of damage and rebuilding.

“Protecting energy infrastructure would be cheaper than rebuilding it,” Sobolev noted, while highlighting that Ukraine currently lacks sufficient air defense systems to safeguard these critical facilities.

Earlier, Russian forces launched a large-scale assault across multiple regions of Ukraine, targeting Kyiv, the Kyiv region, Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa, Rivne, and Poltava. The strikes caused civilian casualties and significant damage to residential areas, energy infrastructure, and industrial facilities.
