Ukrainian paratroopers have rescued a wounded Peruvian citizen who says he was coerced into fighting for Russian forces after being lured to Moscow with the promise of employment, according to footage released by Ukraine’s 77th Airmobile Brigade on April 16.

The video, published by the brigade—part of the Air Assault Forces’ 7th Rapid Response Corps—features an interview with the 41-year-old man, who described how what began as a job opportunity quickly turned into forced military service.

According to his account, he arrived in Russia as a tourist after being offered what he believed was legitimate work in Moscow with a high salary.

Instead, he says he was abducted, stripped of his documents, and threatened with imprisonment unless he signed a contract with the Russian military.

The man claims that foreign nationals are being used as expendable manpower on the front lines, often without proper training or equipment.

After being deployed to a combat zone, he was wounded and managed to escape his position, risking his life to flee Russian-controlled territory. He later reached the positions of Ukrainian paratroopers from the 2nd Battalion, who provided him with medical treatment, food, and evacuation.

In the interview, the rescued man details the conditions he faced in the Russian army, including coercion and poor treatment, and issues a warning to other foreign nationals not to trust similar job offers that could lead them into forced participation in the war.

Earlier, Ukrainian military intelligence identified a Nepali citizen who died while serving with Russian forces in the Donetsk region. The individual was identified as Madan Kumal, born on November 8, 1995. His involvement with the Russian military began on October 16, 2023, when he signed a four-year contract in Moscow.
