Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on May 5 that Vladimir Putin is not planning a trip to the Middle East for mid-May, Reuters reports.

He made this statement in response to a journalist’s question about the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Donald Trump, which the US President mentioned over the weekend.

When reporters asked Peskov about Trump’s comments regarding a potential meeting with Putin during a trip to Saudi Arabia this month, Peskov stated that the Kremlin chief has no trip scheduled there. However, he noted that “such a meeting is clearly on everyone’s lips.”

“In many ways, we believe it is certainly necessary,” Peskov said. “It must be properly prepared and requires efforts at various expert levels,” including ongoing contacts between Moscow and Washington, he added."But so far, there are no specifics on this.”

According to Axios, Trump is set to travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE later this month to attend a summit with Gulf leaders.

Putin has not met with a sitting US president since his summit with Joe Biden in Geneva in June 2021.

Trump stated on May 4 that he and his advisers have recently held productive discussions regarding Russia and Ukraine, though he did not provide further details.

In an NBC News interview published on May 4, Trump stated that Russia is not satisfied with the Ukrainian territories it has already seized during the war and seeks to take over the entire country.
