Kyiv’s First Pride Since Full-Scale War Begins is a Symbol of Resilience and Unity
On June 16, Kyiv hosted its first Equality March since the onset of the full-scale war, drawing approximately 500 participants and marking a significant moment for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
Despite the rain, Kyiv Pride participants gathered near the “Teatralna” metro station and walked along Yevhen Chykalenko Street, with a strong police presence ensuring their safety. The march included activists, military personnel, veterans, diplomats, and international observers.
Although the march lasted no more than 20 minutes, it held deep symbolic significance. The march demonstrated the resilience and commitment of the LGBTQ+ community and its supporters to equality and human rights, even amid the ongoing war.
The participation of local activists, military personnel, and representatives from diplomatic missions and international organizations underscored global support for LGBTQ+ rights in Ukraine.
As the participants dispersed, the message remained clear: the fight for equality continues, and the community remains united in the face of Russian aggression.
