Germany Ends Russian House Agreement and Orders Expulsion of Employees

Germany has ordered employees of the "Russian House" in Berlin to leave the country within seven days, following an explosive-laden drone incident near a Ukrainian military transport plane at the Leipzig/Halle airport on the evening of August 4.

Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechaev stated that while the intergovernmental agreement governing the center's activities expires in the summer of 2027, staff members representing the facility and Rossotrudnichestvo must depart within a week, according to The Moscow Times.

In addition to the expulsions, Germany is shutting down the Russian Consulate General in Bonn starting September 18, with diplomatic staff and their families required to leave quickly.

German investigators discovered a drone carrying explosives near the military transport plane and later located a second drone along with about 50 grams of explosives on August 4.

Following the investigation, Germany officially accused Russia of organizing the sabotage attempt. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that Berlin will continue to support Kyiv and take steps to disrupt similar Russian operations across Germany and Europe.

To bolster defense capabilities, Berlin plans to deliver additional Iris-T air defense missiles and several thousand strike drones to Ukraine, with shipments potentially beginning as early as September.

Germany also intends to deepen intelligence sharing with Kyiv while pushing for stricter sanctions against Moscow, stronger entry controls on Russian citizens, and increased restrictions on Russia’s shadow fleet. European officials also pledged to increase support for Ukraine and tighten sanctions against Russia.

Previously, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev threatened direct military strikes against German infrastructure.

“They deserve a direct strike on all German military equipment production facilities for the Bandera clique. And quite possibly on several other locations in Berlin as well,” Medvedev wrote on Telegram social media, claiming without evidence that Berlin had fabricated the Leipzig incident.
