Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reiterated that the "demilitarization and denazification" of Ukraine are necessary conditions for ending the war. However, it is important to recognize that Russia's true goal is the destruction of Ukraine as a state.

This was reported by Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.

“Lavrov once again opened his mouth about ‘demilitarization and denazification,’ claiming that this is the ‘condition for ending the war.’ The key point to understand is that Russia’s goal is to destroy Ukraine as a state, seize Ukrainian territory, and expel as many of us, Ukrainians, from our land—this remains Russia’s main objective,” Kovalenko noted.

He pointed out that the manipulations surrounding peace efforts, without real measures such as a ceasefire, are merely tactics Moscow uses to mitigate the consequences of the war for itself.

“Militarization of Ukraine is an inevitable result of Russian aggression and the main guarantee of Ukraine’s existence in the future, alongside other guarantees. If there is no change in the Kremlin’s rhetoric, it means that Russia and its regime have not yet suffered critical losses, and pressure must be increased,”

He further added that destroying Russian oil refineries and energy infrastructure in response to its actions, increasing the intensity of strikes using Western weapons, tightening sanctions, and reducing economic support for Moscow from China are all necessary measures.

“Russia must become a battlefield, or it will transfer the war to NATO countries. It is impossible to localize the threat posed by Russia as a current raw-material appendage without destroying its ability to fund the war,” Kovalenko concluded.

Earlier, Russia’s State Duma  approved a law that increases penalties for sabotage, passing it in both the second and third readings, as reported on the government’s website. The new legislation makes individuals as young as 14 criminally liable for sabotage offenses, removes the statute of limitations for sabotage-related crimes, and introduces a possible life sentence for those who encourage minors to participate in sabotage activities.
