Lithuanian prosecutors have referred a criminal case to court involving six foreign nationals accused of plotting a terrorist attack targeting Ukraine military aid in September 2024, LRT reported on January 16.

The individuals allegedly targeted UAB TVC Solutions, a private military supplier in Šiauliai that provides support to Ukraine, according to the Lithuanian General Prosecutor’s Office.

The six defendants face charges of participating in a terrorist group, attempting to commit a terrorist act, and financing terrorist activities. The group includes nationals from Spain, Colombia, Cuba, Russia, and Belarus. The plot aimed at destroying mobile stations for radio spectrum analysis that were intended for Ukraine’s armed forces, according to LRT.

The suspects' activities were allegedly coordinated from Russia by Cuban and Colombian nationals linked to Russia’s military intelligence agency GRU. According to the Lithuanian prosecutors, the attack was part of an effort to disrupt Lithuania’s support for Ukraine and to undermine public opinion on aid to Kyiv.

Following the failed attack, some of the suspects fled to Latvia, where they were detained and subsequently transferred to Lithuania. Investigations are ongoing into four additional suspects, with one arrested in Colombia and the others still at large, most believed to be in Russia, LRT wrote.

The charges could lead to significant prison sentences, with the most serious charge being participation in an organized terrorist group, which carries a penalty of five to 15 years under Lithuanian law.

Russia’s recent sabotage campaign in Europe, previously viewed as isolated incidents, is now raising concerns about a potential strategic escalation ahead of a possible full-scale war against Europe.

Experts believe the series of attacks, ranging from bomb plots targeting logistics centers to drone incursions, may be preparing the ground for broader military actions.
