London Hosts Key European Diplomatic Meeting on Supporting Ukraine Ahead of EU Summit

The foreign ministers of the largest European Union member states will gather in London for a high-level meeting hosted by UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy on May 12.
According to Reuters, the meeting will include the foreign ministers of France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and Poland, along with the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas.
This diplomatic engagement will focus on reinforcing support for Ukraine and enhancing broader European security cooperation. It comes at a critical moment as European nations seek to maintain a united front in response to ongoing security challenges.
"We are facing a once-in-a-generation moment for the collective security of our continent," Lammy said in a statement. "The challenge we face today is not only about the future of Ukraine - it is existential for Europe as a whole."

The London meeting will serve as a precursor to an upcoming summit involving EU leaders and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer next week, underscoring the strategic importance of transatlantic and European unity.
In addition, the United Kingdom is expected to announce a new package of sanctions in response to Russia's continued aggression against Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukraine has received at least eight Raven short-range air defense systems from the United Kingdom, with an additional five units currently being prepared for delivery. The system is designed to counter aerial threats, including Shahed-type drones. It has conducted over 400 launches, achieving a reported success rate of approximately 70%.
