French President Emmanuel Macron stated that US President Donald Trump now understands that Russian leader Vladimir Putin misled him with claims of pursuing peace. Macron made the remarks during a visit to Vietnam, according to Le Monde and BFMTV on May 26.

Referencing a recent post on Trump’s Truth Social account in which he criticized Russia’s attacks on Ukraine, Macron said, “In recent hours, we’ve once again seen an expression of Donald Trump’s anger, a form of impatience. I simply want that to now translate into action.”

The French president called for a “ceasefire, as lasting as possible,” and expressed hope that the United States would align with European Union sanctions against Russia.

“This would allow us to contain Russia and finally bring an end to the conflict. The credibility of the United States is at stake,” Macron added.

On May 25, Trump criticized Putin over the bombing of Ukraine, saying, “What the hell happened to him?”

“He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever. I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.

The statement came after two consecutive nights of large-scale Russian attacks on Ukraine.

In the early hours of May 25, Ukraine endured one of the most intense air assaults of the war, as Russian forces launched 367 drones and missiles across multiple regions, killing 13 people and injuring more than 60 others, including several children.
