A least one missile struck a residential building in the southern Russian resort city of Gelendzhik overnight as local air defenses opened fire on incoming drones along the Black Sea coast, according to eyewitness videos and local reports on November 24.

Footage filmed by bystanders shows a single missile slamming into a multi-story apartment block in Gelendzhik, followed by a fire inside the building as residents shout in the background and continue to record from nearby streets and balconies.

Another video filmed that night shows the sky over Gelendzhik lit up by chaotic bursts of air defense fire, with repeated blasts and flashes visible overhead.

Russian authorities had issued no official comment on the cause of the strike, possible malfunctions of air defense systems, or the extent of damage and casualties.

The incident occurred in a stretch of the Black Sea coast that includes Novorossiysk, a key naval hub, and Gelendzhik, an area known for elite residences and growing militarization, underscoring the mounting risks to civilian neighborhoods inside Russia as cross-border attacks and air defense activity intensify.

Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian security and defense forces conducted a major overnight strike on Novorossiysk’s Sheskharis oil terminal, damaging key export infrastructure, sparking a large fire, and also hitting a Russian S-300/400 air defense position with secondary explosions.
