Montenegro to Launch Domestic Drone Production, First Batch Heading to Ukraine

Montenegro’s government is set to begin domestic drone production in partnership with a United States-based company, according to Telegrafi, citing an official government document.
The first batch of drones will be delivered to Ukraine.
Officials say the initiative aligns with Montenegro’s broader commitments, which include strengthening the country’s defense industry.
“It will improve the Army’s capabilities in relation to NATO, support Ukraine’s defense needs, and position Montenegro as a reliable supplier of the most modern defense equipment on the global market,” the document states.

However, it remains unclear when production will begin or how much funding the Montenegrin government will allocate for the project.
The document notes that the agreement will also receive support from the United States government, with a contribution of up to $15 million.
“The ongoing conflict in Ukraine underscores the urgent need for UAS systems and the safe transportation of hazardous materials,” the document states.

It is reported that during a session held on May 29, the Government of Montenegro approved a “letter of intent” to invest in the production of unmanned aircraft systems and the development of exports from Montenegrin airports.
This agreement serves as a precursor to a formal contract, which is expected to be signed in September.
On June 4, the United Kingdom has pledged to deliver 100,000 drones to Ukraine by the end of the current financial year in April 2026, in what London describes as a decisive upgrade in its military assistance to Kyiv.
