NATO Deputy Secretary General Vows Continued Support for Ukraine Through Future Challenges

Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska stated that the NATO Alliance will maintain and increase its support for Ukraine in the face of ongoing challenges.
Speaking at the 17th Annual Kyiv Security Forum on May 8, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine,” Shekerinska reaffirmed NATO’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense and long-term security.
"NATO stands with Ukraine,” Shekerinska stated. “We have been with you from the very beginning. We are with you today. And we will be with you throughout all future challenges.”
She added that NATO member states and partners have already provided unprecedented military, financial, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, including critical air defense systems.
Shekerinska assured that NATO would continue to support Ukraine’s defense efforts and work to deter any future aggression. Adding that NATO members are continuing to expand their support. “In the first three months of 2025 alone, they have pledged over 20 billion euros in security assistance to Ukraine,” she said.
“Many countries, particularly through efforts led by France and the UK, have demonstrated their willingness, determination, and ability to take on greater responsibility and help secure peace when the time comes.”
In addition to the financial and military contributions, Shekerinska praised the bravery of Ukraine’s defenders. “I saw the faces of courage,” she said, recalling her meetings with Ukrainian veterans.
“These are the faces of the Ukrainian veterans I met. They embody the indomitable spirit of a proud nation. When the Russian offensive began, these brave warriors did not flinch–and Ukraine stood firm. The men and women of this country serve with courage, strength, and determination. It is important to remember their service and their sacrifice.”
In related news, Ukraine held a series of online meetings with representatives from the US, EU, Nordic countries, and Baltic states to discuss a proposed 30-day ceasefire, Head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak announced.
