NATO Has Yet to Deliver All Promised Weapons, Says Zelenskyy
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy raised concerns about delays in NATO’s delivery of promised air defense systems and other military aid during a phone call with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte on November 27.
Zelenskyy pointed to unfulfilled commitments made at the NATO summit in Washington, stressing the urgency of bolstering Ukraine’s defenses.
“The decisions regarding air defense and other supplies for the front line have yet to be fully implemented,” Zelenskyy said. He also named specific air defense systems that could work effectively and are available from Ukraine’s partners.
The president highlighted the significant impact of these delays on the morale and motivation of the Ukrainian people. “We are still waiting for this, and it significantly affects the motivation and morale of our people,” he added.
During the call, they also discussed recent developments, including Ukraine’s authorization to conduct long-range strikes on military targets in Russia. Zelenskyy acknowledged the effectiveness of this decision but emphasized the need to maintain and intensify pressure on Russia across multiple levels.
Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Rutte for his continued support and updates on NATO’s coordination with partners. They also discussed efforts to fulfill existing agreements and secure additional military and political support for Ukraine, including advancing its bid for NATO membership.
Previously, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken emphasized ensuring Ukraine’s ability to fight and negotiate from a position of strength in 2025.
