The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained that several elements of the US peace plan require further discussion, especially on a number of “sensitive issues,” including security guarantees for Ukraine and questions of territory. Zelenskyy made the comment in an interview with Bloomberg on December 8.

The president stated that Kyiv insists on a separate agreement on security guarantees from its Western allies—first and foremost, the United States.

“There are visions of the US, Russia and Ukraine—and we don’t have a unified view on Donbas,” Zelenskyy told Bloomberg early Monday. He noted that Kyiv is seeking a standalone pact on security guarantees from its Western partners, especially the United States.

“There is one question I—and all Ukrainians—want to get an answer to: if Russia again starts the war, what will our partners do,” Zelenskyy said.
