North Korea Likely Ready for Nuclear Test and Long-Range Missile Launch, South Korea Reports
North Korea is reportedly nearing the completion of preparations for its seventh nuclear test and a possible launch of a long-range ballistic missile capable of reaching the United States. This information comes from South Korean intelligence, as reported by the Associated Press.
According to South Korean sources, North Korea’s military has likely finished the groundwork necessary for conducting a nuclear test at its facility in Punggye-ri, located in the country’s northeast. It is anticipated that the detonation may occur in Tunnel No. 3, as the last nuclear test conducted by North Korea took place in 2017.
In addition, there are indications that some advanced units of North Korean forces, which were sent to Russia, have arrived at the front lines. These units are preparing to advance into the Kursk region, where Russia has faced challenges in countering Ukrainian incursions.
The intelligence also highlights signs of preparations for a test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) designed to reach the continental United States. The preparations are expected to involve the deployment of the missile and its launch vehicle, with the test launch potentially occurring in November.
Earlier this year, North Korea conducted tests of new ballistic missiles featuring large warheads, including the Hwasongpho-11-Da-4.5, which remains under development. Furthermore, in the summer, North Korea successfully executed significant tests aimed at developing missiles capable of carrying multiple warheads simultaneously.
