The financing will be allocated via the World Bank’s PEACE program, which was launched in 2022 following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“We are sincerely grateful for this timely contribution, which reflects Norway’s principled leadership and steadfast support for Ukraine during this period of immense challenge,” Svyrydenko said. “This support is vital for maintaining Ukraine’s macro-financial stability and ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of essential public services.”

Svyrydenko noted that since its launch, the PEACE program has channeled approximately $52 billion in international assistance to Ukraine, including $13.4 billion used for pension payments.

The contribution comes as Norway prepares to significantly increase its overall support for Ukraine in 2026.

Norway’s total assistance this year is expected to reach nearly $8 billion, accounting for about 20% of the overall support Kyiv is projected to receive, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said during a press briefing on February 25.

Støre noted that since the start of Russia’s invasion, Norway has shifted from supplying equipment from its own reserves to becoming a key partner in strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

“We are now a major supporter in the areas where you need it most in defense,” he said, pointing to Norway’s contributions to drone production, long-range artillery, and maritime security, emphasizing the country’s experience as a naval power.

Norway has also provided Ukraine with a substantial number of missiles for NASAMS air defense systems, enhancing the country’s protection against Russian attacks.
