“Not Being Considered”: Kremlin Rejects Russia–US–Ukraine Peace Meeting Idea

Russia is not seriously considering a potential three-way meeting between representatives of Russia, US, and Ukraine, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said, according to Russia’s state news agency TASS on December 21.
“No one has seriously discussed this initiative yet, and as far as I know, it is not being considered,” he told TASS when asked about the possibility of such a meeting.

Ushakov also criticized proposed changes to a peace plan on Ukraine put forward by Kyiv and European countries, arguing they move the sides further away from an agreement.
“I am more than confident that the provisions that the Europeans together with the Ukrainians have introduced or are trying to introduce definitely do not improve the documents and do not improve the chances of achieving a long-term peace,” he told TASS.

The Kremlin official added that he has not seen the documents themselves, saying there have only been “signals in the press,” Ushakov said.
Previosuly, the Kremlin confirmed that it is preparing to establish contacts with the United States to obtain details about recent US discussions with European and Ukrainian officials regarding a potential peace settlement for the war in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying, “We are, indeed, preparing certain contacts with our American counterparts in order to obtain information about the results of the work carried out by the Americans with the Europeans and the Ukrainians.”
