Zelenskyy Pledges Strong Post-War Military With Backing From International Allies

Ukraine’s post-war security will rely on a strong military and ongoing international support, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at a joint press conference with Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof on December 16, as reported by RBC.
Zelenskyy confirmed that all soldiers wishing to continue their service will have the opportunity to sign new contracts. He highlighted the Ukrainian army’s proven effectiveness in defending against Russian aggression, as well as the resilience of the Ukrainian people.

However, Zelenskyy noted that post-war conditions will not mirror the current emergency situation, as many citizens who transitioned from civilian jobs to military service will have the right to return to peaceful life. He stressed that Ukraine’s international partners will play an important role in preserving the unique experience gained by the military, especially in the context of modern technological warfare.

Zelenskyy outlined plans for additional funding, stable contracts for those wishing to continue service, and maintaining the valuable experience gained during the war. He reaffirmed that a strong, well-supported Ukrainian army will be the foundation of Ukraine’s post-war security framework.
Previously, talks in Berlin marked the most successful stage so far toward a potential peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia, according to two senior US officials who spoke anonymously after more than two days of meetings with Ukrainian and European leaders.
The officials said the discussions produced what they described as real consensus on a number of important issues, following at least eight hours of direct talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. One described the negotiations as broadly positive, noting that all points of a 20-point framework had been discussed.
