A Ukrainian drone unit has struck a high-value Russian air defense system deep behind enemy lines, destroying an Osa surface-to-air missile complex, the Skifski Hryfony  unit announced on January 13.

According to the unit, the Osa system—designed to protect troops and critical infrastructure from air attack—was eliminated by a single-strike drone operating far from the front line.

Based on available estimates, the destroyed air defense system was worth more than $10 million. The drone used to carry out the strike, the unit noted, cost hundreds of times less.

The operators emphasized that the engagement highlights a defining trend of the war: the growing dominance of intelligence-driven targeting, technology, and precision over mass and manpower.

These factors allow Ukrainian forces to neutralize expensive and strategically important systems without committing large formations or exposing personnel to direct risk.

Earlier, Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed a Russian P-18-2 “Prima” radar for the first time since the system entered service, marking a significant breakthrough in Ukraine’s campaign against Russia’s air-defense network.
