Poland and Ukraine have formally announced a new phase in their defense partnership, committing to expand joint weapons production, enhance training programs, and intensify coordination on air defense and drone warfare, UNITED24 Media correspondent reports.
Speaking in Kyiv on September 18 alongside Ukrainian officials, Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that the cooperation will encompass joint ventures between state-owned and private enterprises from both countries. According to him, the projects will extend across “all domains—land, sea, underwater, and air,” with a particular focus on unmanned systems, drones, and counter-drone technologies.

“Over three years of war, Ukraine has made an epochal leap in drone capabilities,” Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized.
Polish representatives highlighted the importance of incorporating Ukrainian experience into Poland’s defense industry, both public and private, in order to strengthen Europe’s collective defense capacity.

The announcements also included plans for collaboration in the fields of ballistic missiles, robotics, and artificial intelligence, as well as the creation of advanced software platforms for drone coordination and target recognition. Officials stressed the necessity of addressing Russia’s tactic of overwhelming the battlefield with inexpensive decoy drones, underscoring the need for more sophisticated systems capable of distinguishing real threats without exhausting resources.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of training Ukrainian soldiers and engineers in Poland in cooperation with NATO structures. This effort will include integrated air defense, described as “just the tip of the iceberg” in broader initiatives aimed at securing shared airspace.

The press conference further addressed wider European support. Leaders noted that $46.8 from the European Union’s SAFE program will be allocated to Poland to enhance industrial capacity essential for joint defense production.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also cautioned against Russian disinformation efforts aimed at undermining bilateral relations. “
The destruction of cooperation and understanding within and between our countries—we cannot and will not allow this,” he affirmed.
Earlier, Poland expressed its intention to join NATO’s nuclear sharing arrangements and is exploring cooperation with France as a potential partner in this initiative.
