Poland Announces Closure of Consulate General in St. Petersburg, Russia
On January 8, a ceremony marking the closure of Poland's Consulate General took place in St. Petersburg, Russia, with the participation of the Polish Ambassador to Russia, Krzysztof Krajewski. This was announced by Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“This is a retaliation to the decision of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to close the Russian Consulate General in Poznań after the discovery of Russian sabotage in Poland,“ the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland wrote on X.
"We would like to thank the Polish people and the Polish community in St. Petersburg," Krajewski stated, according to Radio Svoboda. Additionally, the official expressed hope that Poland's consulate would return to St. Petersburg in "better times." The Polish Consulate General in the city had been operating for 52 years.
Previously, on October 22, Poland officially announced the closure of the Russian Consulate in Poznań, declaring its personnel persona non grata, citing security threats from Moscow’s ongoing hybrid warfare.
