Polish Deputy Defense Minister and Arms Industry Leaders Visit Ukraine for Defense Cooperation Talks

Poland’s Deputy Defense Minister, Cezary Tomczyk, arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit, accompanied by executives from Polish defense industry companies. The visit, first reported by the Polish Ministry of Defense on X, on February 3.
Upon arrival at Kyiv’s central railway station, Tomczyk was received by Piotr Lukasiewicz, Poland’s chargé d’affaires in Ukraine, and Defense Attaché Colonel Dariusz Słota. The delegation includes representatives from the Polish Armaments Group (Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa, PGZ) and its member companies.
During the visit, Tomczyk is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian government officials and defense industry representatives. Discussions are expected to focus on expanding defense cooperation and exploring opportunities for arms production and procurement.
Tomczyk stated on social media that this is the first mission of its kind since the beginning of Russia’s the full-scale invasion, with Polish defense manufacturers presenting their proposals to the Ukrainian side.
This visit follows ongoing high-level engagements between Poland and Ukraine. Polish President Andrzej Duda previously emphasized the need for substantial international support for Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement, highlighting the importance of economic recovery and security stabilization.
In a recent joint press conference in Warsaw, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed NATO commitments and the necessity for European nations to enhance their defense spending.
Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda stated at the World Economic Forum in Davos that Vladimir Putin should be forced to seek negotiations with Ukraine and its allies. Speaking at the Ukrainian Breakfast discussion, he emphasized that any resolution must ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty and security while compelling Russia to respect international law.
