Polish Man Charged in Alleged Plot Against President Zelenskyy, Linked to Russian Intelligence

On May 20, Polish prosecutors formally charged a Polish citizen, identified as Pawel K., in connection with an alleged plot targeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The suspect was detained in April of last year.
According to the investigation, Pawel K. is accused of cooperating with Russian military intelligence and establishing contacts with individuals involved in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
His alleged role in the plot involved gathering and providing information regarding security measures at the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport.
The Polish prosecution launched the case following information shared by the Ukrainian Office of the Prosecutor General. Ukrainian authorities, including the Security Service (SBU), collaborated with Polish agencies during the investigation.

Prosecutors indicated that the cooperation between the two countries’ law enforcement helped secure key evidence and advance the case.
Pawel K. faces charges of cooperating with a foreign intelligence service against Polish interests. If convicted, he could face up to eight years in prison.
Earlier in April 2024, Ukrainian officials announced the arrest of a Polish national suspected of proposing an attack on President Zelenskyy during his visit to Warsaw.
Previously, it was reported that Orlin Roussev, a 47-year-old Bulgarian national living in the UK, was sentenced to 10 years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to commit espionage.
