Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced progress in efforts to address the historical Volyn tragedy, a defining chapter in Polish-Ukrainian relations, on January 10.

Tusk confirmed the decision to begin the first exhumations of Polish victims of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) during World War II.

"Finally, a breakthrough. The decision for the first exhumations of Polish victims of UPA has been made. I thank the Ministers of Culture of Poland and Ukraine for their good cooperation. We await further decisions," Tusk said.

Previously, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk highlighted that his country’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union, beginning January 1, 2025, coincides with a critical period and could witness significant developments regarding the war and peace in Ukraine.

On November 26, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced that Ukraine has agreed to facilitate search and exhumation operations on its territory.
