“Progress Expected in Coming Weeks” Witkoff Reports Ongoing Ukraine-Russia Talks

Ukraine and Russia have completed a significant prisoner exchange since the recent trilateral negotiations in Geneva with the United States, bringing the total number of people returned to 1,000. On March 5–6 specifically, 500 individuals were exchanged, with 200 returned on March 5 and 300 on March 6. Steve Witkoff, the US President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East, stated that additional progress is expected in the coming weeks.
Witkoff confirmed that the exchange was a result of agreements reached during recent trilateral negotiations in Geneva involving the United States.

He noted that the discussions are not yet over and that further developments are anticipated shortly. These sessions are held with the support of the Swiss government and the participation of US representatives who are working on the text of a peace agreement to end Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
“Negotiations are ongoing, and additional progress is expected in the coming weeks,” Witkoff remarked.
However, recent events in the Middle East have impacted the schedule of these trilateral meetings.

In an interview with the Italian publication Corriere Della Sera on March 3, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned his hope that US military actions in Iran would not disrupt the negotiations with Russia.
Earlier, Ukraine brought home 200 servicemen from Russian captivity as part of the first stage of a prisoner exchange agreed during trilateral negotiations in Geneva.
