Putin Plans Mass Production and Testing of "Oreshnik" Intercontinental Missile
Russian leader Vladimir Putin announced the successful testing of the "Oreshnik" missile system, which targeted Dnipro, Ukraine, on November 21. The Kremlin plans to begin mass production of this weapon.
Putin made the statement during a meeting with top officials from the Russian Ministry of Defense, the military-industrial complex, and missile developers.
According to Putin, there are currently no systems in the world capable of intercepting these missiles. Additionally, he claimed that the "Oreshnik" is not a modernization of old Soviet systems but a weapon built on the foundation of advanced Russian developments.
The Russian leader added that Moscow already has a stockpile of these systems ready for deployment.
Putin also announced plans to continue testing the "Oreshnik" missiles, including "under combat conditions, depending on the situation and the nature of security threats" to Russia. He stated that the decision to begin mass production of the "Oreshnik" has already been "made and practically implemented."
Additionally, Putin revealed that Russia is working on a series of medium- and short-range missiles. Several systems are reportedly undergoing testing and are also slated for mass production.
