Ukraine is allegedly in discussions with the US regarding the provision of weapons capable of intercepting intercontinental missiles, sources within Ukraine’s Armed Forces told Ukrinform.

"Ukraine currently lacks systems capable of intercepting intercontinental missiles, but the US possesses such weaponry. Ukraine will request the transfer of these systems from the US," the agency reported.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that the discussions could involve upgrading the Patriot air defense systems or acquiring the Aegis system.

The American Aegis missile defense system is designed to protect against short- and medium-range ballistic missiles.

According to the sources, Russia’s launch of experimental missiles is a demonstrative move aimed at intimidation and showcasing the determination of their intentions. Russian forces reportedly have only a limited number of such experimental missiles, like the one launched at Dnipro, with quantities reportedly in the single digits.

On November 21, Ukrainian Air Forces reported that Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile on the city of Dnipro, Ukraine, for the first time since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Later that day, Putin confirmed that Russia had launched its latest ballistic hypersonic missile "Oreshnik" at Ukraine.
