On June 24, UK Defence Secretary John Healey spoke at a NATO public forum titled “A Strong Ukraine for a Just and Lasting Peace” about Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine and NATO’s continued support for the country.

According to a UNITED24 Media correspondent, he emphasized, “Putin thought that was a war he would win in a week. Instead, this month he passed the bloody milestone for a million casualties—men that he sent to the death and various injuries.”

“Understandably, all eyes have been on the Middle East and it’s really important that we don’t lose sight of Ukraine. Putin wants our focus to sleep and part of the strong message from NATO is that we will not let this happen.”

He also highlighted forthcoming support measures:

“You’ll hear from the UK Prime Minister tomorrow further announcement of the UK aid, designed help reinforce air defenses.” He pointed ahead to future strategic coordination: “You’ll see the meeting of UDCG  next month in which with Rustem [Umerov], Boris Pistorius and I – we will try to reform the UDCG, so they can work within NSATU  and the NATO capacity there, but to support Ukraine for the long‑term and to coordinate the coalitions,” Healey continued.

On the same day, a senior NATO official stated that Russia has likely surpassed the threshold of one million total casualties in its war against Ukraine — including approximately 250,000 killed.
