Kirill Dmitriev, the special envoy for investment and economic cooperation under the Russian leader Vladimir Putin, landed in Washington for high-level talks aimed at revitalizing strained bilateral relations and exploring potential areas of economic collaboration amid ongoing US sanctions. The visit was reported by Reuters on October 23.
According to a report, Dmitriev arrived in Washington for high-level discussions aimed at revitalizing bilateral ties.
The visit comes in the wake of sanctions imposed by the Donald Trump administration on Russia’s oil-sector giants, Rosneft and Lukoil, which triggered a spike in global oil prices.
Putin dismissed the sanctions as “an attempt to put pressure on Russia” and asserted that they would have “little impact on the Russian economy”. “[No] self-respecting country and no self-respecting people ever decide anything under pressure,” he said.

During his visit, Dmitriev indicated optimism in dialogue with Washington, describing a “positive dynamic” in relations even as he acknowledged more work remains.
The coming days will be closely watched for any tangible agreements or shifts in US-Russia economic engagement. This visit follows previous rounds of reporting on improved contacts between the two capitals.
Earlier, it was reported that Kirill Dmitriev—head of Russia’s National Wealth Fund and adviser to Vladimir Putin—was set to visit Washington for the first time since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, signaling a potential thaw in US-Russia economic ties.
