Russian military losses in March reached the highest levels since the beginning of the war, with more than 35,000 confirmed casualties in just one month, as reported by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on April 3.

In a statement, Zelenskyy revealed that 33,988 Russian soldiers were either killed or severely wounded due to drone strikes alone. Additionally, 1,363 Russians were eliminated through artillery and other strikes.

“Thank you to all our soldiers for their precision. I would like to especially recognize the soldiers of the CSO ‘A’  of the Security Service of Ukraine, the ‘Birds of Madyar,’ the border guard special unit ‘Phoenix,’ Lazar’s Group, and the 95th Separate Air Assault Brigade: these are the most effective units in the use of drones,” the president said.

Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov further elaborated on the success of Ukrainian forces across multiple fronts, stating that detailed and verified reports are available for every sector and category of destruction. These reports are also being shared with Ukraine’s international partners.

Zelenskyy also noted the growing success of Ukrainian forces in neutralizing Russian air defense systems, with 274 units destroyed in March alone. In addition to targeting air defense, Ukrainian forces have made significant progress in dismantling Russian supply chains and military logistics.

Additionally, reports indicate that Russian troops have suffered more than 6,000 casualties over just four days, underscoring the ongoing escalation in the war.

Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi noted that Russian aggression had grown significantly as favorable weather conditions allowed for a surge in offensive operations.

“With the change in weather conditions, the Russian aggressor increased pressure on several sections of the front at once,” Syrskyi stated, adding that these intensified actions had led to a corresponding rise in Russian losses during the same period.

The reported figures indicate that from March 17 to March 20, over 6,000 Russian soldiers were either killed or wounded in the fighting.

Ukrainian military officials are also closely monitoring Russia’s continued efforts to bolster its forces, with plans to recruit an additional 409,000 soldiers in 2026, according to Oleksandr Syrskyi.

“This means one thing—the enemy is not abandoning its intentions and continues to prepare for further aggression against Ukraine,” Syrskyi stated.
