Canadian-made Roshel Senator RAM MRAP armored vehicles have officially entered service with Haiti’s armed forces, where they will be used primarily for anti-gang and security operations, Defense Express reported on November 11.

A ceremony marking the delivery was held recently, with Haiti set to receive a total of 17 vehicles under the order. The shipment includes the Senator RAM MRAP variant, a new model only unveiled this year.

Officials said the new vehicles are meant to enhance mobility and protection for Haitian forces. In addition to transport variants, Haiti has reportedly purchased armed configurations, though details about their turrets or other weapon systems have not been disclosed, according to Defense Express

MRAP-class vehicles—designed to withstand ambushes and mines—are a strong fit for Haiti, where heavily armed gangs and militia groups pose the biggest threat to public security. Officials expect the Senators to be used mainly in “police-style” urban operations.

The Roshel Senator gained global recognition during the full-scale Russian war against Ukraine, where it proved its resilience in combat and resistance to mine blasts. In peacekeeping or counterterrorism operations, the vehicle’s design makes it particularly effective, Defense Express notes.

Since the first units were sent to Ukraine, Roshel has continuously upgraded its vehicles based on frontline feedback from Ukrainian operators. The latest versions feature improved armor, better crew ergonomics, and added protection against small arms and explosives.

Unlike earlier Senators built on the Ford F-550 platform, the new Senator RAM MRAP is based on the Ram 5500 truck chassis. The latest configuration also includes several design updates, such as additional side doors and internal modifications that improve crew access and survivability.

According to Defense Express, Haiti had already been using earlier versions of the Roshel Senator and Senator MRAP, some leased through the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti. The vehicles form the backbone of Haiti’s armored fleet, making every new delivery strategically important for maintaining law and order in the country.

Earlier, Canadian armored vehicle manufacturer Roshel launched production operations in Ukraine, according to company CEO Roman Shimonov.
