Russia Announces Delegation Lineup for High-Stakes Alaska Negotiations

Russia has finalized the lineup of its delegation for the upcoming negotiations in Alaska, which will include Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, Defense Minister Andrey Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, and the President’s Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev.
Ushakov announced the composition during a briefing, Russian state media RBC reported on August 14.
The makeup of the US delegation has also been agreed upon, but, in Ushakov’s words, “it would be appropriate” for the American side to disclose it.

He noted that once the talks conclude, members of both delegations will hold a joint press conference. Ushakov added that the Russian delegation will leave Alaska immediately after the negotiations end.
Previously, on August 13, Trump stated there is a “very good chance” he will meet Putin for a second time after their scheduled summit in Anchorage. Speaking to reporters at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, he explained that the follow-up meeting could take place “almost immediately” if the first one proves productive.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced that he will meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15.
Trump said the talks are expected to explore potential options for a “long-term settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.” He added that Moscow anticipates the next meeting between the two leaders will be held in Russia.
